The Yorkshire Meatball Company, Harrogate

Oh, how I love a bank holiday weekend. And this one was particularly glorious wasn't it? Just what we needed for day out in Harrogate. We headed north, picked mum and dad up on the way and spent a leisurely day wondering around the shops, picking out beautiful chocolates at Farrah's and meandering down The Stray. We showed Dave our old house, where we lived when I was little, then headed off to the Yokshire Meatball Company for an early dinner.
I heard about the Yorkshire Meatball Company about 6 months ago though Twitter. They serve one thing... meatballs! The concept is pretty simple. You choose your balls, sauce and side. The decor is a bit industrial with cheese graters used as light shades and brown paper menus that double as place mats.

Now here's the clincher for me... The Yorkshire Meatball Company was able to cater (from the standard menu!) for my mum who is gluten free, dairy free and egg free. In restaurant terms, this is like finding a unicorn. And with a main course costing £9.95, this is one reasonably priced unicorn.
Me, Dave and dad opted for the Sunday roast which gave us a good selection of their sides in one go.
Fortunately I was able to steal a little bit of everyone's food so I can give you a bit of a run down.
  • The Yorkshire balls are the traditional meatball made of beef and pork - Good and exactly what you would expect.
  • The Hot balls are made with pork shoulder and a hint of chilli. These are delicious. If you aren't a spicy food lover don't be put off by the mention of chilli, there's barely any heat here just utter meatbally goodness.
  • The Smokey balls are the winner for me though. The lamb shoulder seasoned with smoked paprika was beyond good.
If you're looking for a reasonably priced restaurant in Harrogate that's laid back and delicious I would definitely recommend the Yorkshire Meatball Company. If you're looking for somewhere than can cater for special dietary requirements then it's a no brainer.

I'd also like to say thank you the fabulous staff who were so lovely and patient with us.
